Rose Worlds: Our collection of roses

On 13 hectares, we cultivate rose varieties of all growth forms: from low ground cover roses to bedding and shrub roses to meter-high ramblers. The film not only gives an idea of the external diversity of roses, it also looks at the history of the development of the Rosa genus. On the one hand, the Rosarium shows around 450 different wild roses, but on the other hand, it also shows the successes of rose-loving breeders: one experiences both the historical species that bloom once and the modern roses that bloom several times - in a total of 8,000 different varieties. Preserving the biological diversity of the genus is one of the Rosarium's core tasks.

In the Rosarium there are roses from different countries and all distribution areas of the world, but the main focus is on roses from German breeders. Both contemporary varieties and rare cultivars from the 19th and 20th centuries are cultivated. Some roses can only be found here in the Europa-Rosarium Sangerhausen!

The Rosarium was founded in 1903 by the Association of German Rose Friends. Today it is an institution of the city of Sangerhausen and is actively supported by the Society of German Rose Friends. In this film you will learn which rose collections are waiting for you in the Europa-Rosarium Sangerhausen, what is behind the research project Genbank Rose and how you can also contribute to the preservation of the Rosarium.
