Picturesque climbing roses

Especially at the beginning of the 20th century, they could not be missing in any garden: Climbing roses. They climbed over walls and pergolas, over the roofs of romantic arbors or into tall trees. Even today, climbing roses are often planted in large and small gardens because of their versatility. Especially when space is limited, it is worthwhile to make the third dimension in the garden - height - a colorful experience.

But what are climbers and what are ramblers? How do you distinguish between them correctly, and which of them are best suited to your own garden and individual design preferences? Garden film author Sabine Zessin and rose expert Eilike Vemmer provide answers to these questions. The film provides an insight into the world of climbing roses and explains, for example, what makes the variety "New Dawn" a celebrity or what influence unusual rose imports from the Far East have had on rose cultivation in Europe.

Around 850 climbing rose species and varieties can be viewed in the Europa-Rosarium Sangerhausen; among them historical classics, but also a great many modern varieties. The film shows: There is a climbing rose to suit everyone, and it would be a shame to miss out on this prospect of climbing blooms in your own garden.
